Miami Tops Clemson In Super-Regional Opener

CORAL GABLES, FL – Senior centerfielder Charlton Jimerson went 2-5 with three RBI to lead Miami (48-12) to a 10-8 win over Clemson (41-21) in game one of the Coral Gables Super Regional at Mark Light Stadium. With the win, the Hurricanes extended their NCAA-best winning streak to 12 games. UM has won 15 consecutive post-season games at Mark Light Stadium.
Right-handed reliever Dan Smith earned the win to improve to 5-0. Smith entered the game with the bases loaded in the fifth inning and forced Clemson second baseman Ryan Riley into a ground out to end the inning. Nick Glaser (4-3) took the loss for Clemson.
Miami took the decisive lead in the fifth inning. Shortstop Kevin Howard singled to lead off the inning. Right fielder Kevin Mannix singled to advance Howard to second. First baseman Kevin Brown loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch. Second baseman Kris Clute followed with a RBI-ground out to score Howard and give Miami a 7-6 lead.
Along with Jimerson, Mike Rodrigues, Howard, and Mannix all registered multi-hit games for Miami.
First baseman Michael Johnson led the Tigers going 2-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Johnson hit his 18th home run in the eighth inning marking the fifth consecutive game that he has hit a home run,
Miami and Clemson return to action in game two of the Super Regional on Saturday at 7 p.m.
