May 26, 2001
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Sophomore Roger Lincoln allowed just one earned run in 7.2 innings to lead the Stetson Hatters (43-16) to a 6-3 win over Florida (35-27) and a berth in Sunday’s final of the Coral Gables Regional.
Lincoln improves to 6-0 on the season. Joey Simon (7-6) took the loss for Florida.
Stetson, which advances to its fourth regional final in school history, will face top-seeded Miami Sunday at 1 p.m. The Hurricanes advanced with a 6-2 win over the Gators earlier in the day. Stetson, seeded third in the regional, avenged an opening round loss to Florida on Friday.
The Hatters must defeat Miami twice on Sunday to advance to the Super Regional.
Stetson was led offensively by junior right fielder Jeff Cristy who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Gator senior Peter Nystrom led Florida going 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Down 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Stetson tied the game on an RBI double by freshman Bryan Zenchyk scoring Cristy. The Hatters then took the lead when senior Frank Corr scored on a wild pitch by Simon.
