April 23, 2001

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – After a three-game sweep of then-No. 3 Florida State in Tallahassee this past weekend, the University of Miami baseball team (33-10) jumped to No. 3 in the most recent Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches’ Poll.

The Hurricanes are the only school to ever sweep the Seminoles in a three-game series at Dick Howser Stadium, recording the feat in 2001, 1998 and 1992. This past weekend, Miami took the three games with scores of 7-5, 9-6 and 7-4. For the season, UM won five of six games played against FSU.

Miami also jumped to No. 4 in the Baseball America poll, from its previous spot at No. 6.

The Hurricanes return to action this weekend with a three-game series against Virginia, Friday through Sunday, at Mark Light Stadium. Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Additionally, UM will host nationally ranked Stetson on Monday at 7 p.m.

All four games can be heard over the Internet at hurricanesports.com, as well as on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM. Fox Sports Net Florida will be televising the Friday and Saturday games. UM’s flagship station, Sports Radio 560 WQAM, will also have the Saturday night game.
