Mike Fiore Headlines The First Pitch Banquet

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – Head Coach Jim Morris and the 2001 Hurricanes invite you to the University of Miami Baseball “First Pitch” Banquet, Thursday, January 18, at the Biscayne Bay Marriott, 1633 Bayshore Drive.

Former UM baseball great Mike Fiore will serve as the featured guest speaker, with longtime UM public address announcer Jay Rokeach as the master of ceremonies.

Cocktail hour starts at 6:00pm with dinner at 7:00pm. The cost per person is $55, and $440 for a table of eight.

Miami finished the 2000 season with a 41-19-1 overall record and ranked as high as 13th in the final college baseball polls. The team advanced to a final and decisive third playoff game at hthe NCAA Super Regional Tournament in Tallahassee after sweeping through its own Coral Gables Regional with three straight wins over Wagner, FAU and FIU.

The Hurricanes return several players from last year’s squad, including the seven position starters and two starting pitchers.

The annual Alumni Game will be held on January 19 at Mark Light Stadium, with the season opener taking place against FAU on January 25.
