Canes Advance To Next Weekend's Super Regional

CORAL GABLES, FL – Freshman designated hitter Danny Matienzo hit a first inninggrandslam home run and shortstop Javy Rodriguez was 3-3 with an RBI and fourruns scored as the University of Miami Hurricanes defeated FloridaInternational in the championship game of the Coral Gables Regional on Sunday.
Matienzo was 3-for-5 on the day with six RBI and tied the record for grandslams by a freshman, knocking out his second of the season.
Sophomore left-hander Brian Walker recorded the win, throwing 7.1 innings forthe ‘Canes. Walker allowed four runs while striking out seven. Tom Farmercame in for one inning of scoreless relief.
The Hurricanes advance to the next weekend’s Super Regional which will beheld at a site to be determined Monday.
