Miami To Host Baseball Regional

May 15, 2000

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami has been selected as one of 16 regional host sites for the 2000 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The regional tournament will begin on Friday, May 26 and continue through Sunday, May 28 at Mark Light Stadium.

Miami (34-17-1) will be hosting its fourth consecutive regional and 17th overall. Miami is assured of making its NCAA-record 28th consecutive regional appearance. The Hurricanes have advanced to the College World Series 14 of the 16 years they have hosted a regional and hold a 60-10 (.857) record in regional play at Mark Light Stadium.

“All you have to do is look at our home record over the years and know that it is a great advantage [to host],” said head coach Jim Morris. “Our players are staying in normal places, they’re eating normal food, they don’t have to travel. We’re playing on a field we are familiar with. There’s a lot of confidence playing at home and its a huge advantage.”

Tickets to the Coral Gables Regional may be purchased at TicketMaster Outlets or from the UM ticket office at the Hecht Athletic Center. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 284-CANES or 1-800-GO-CANES.

All-tournament packages are $60 for reserve chairback seats, $36 for general admission and $27 for youths 17 and under and seniors 55 and over. Single day passes are $20 for chairback seats, $12 for adult general admission and $9 for youths and seniors. Individual game tickets are not available.

The 64-team NCAA brackets will be announced on Monday, May 22 at 3 p.m. EDT and televised on ESPN.
