MIAMI INJURY REPORT:
#38 Kevin Brown – Bruised Left Shin
Sustained a deep bruise to his left shin after fouling a ball of it in the Michigan State game. Has missed 16 games.
#13 Troy Roberson – Right Elbow
Will have exploratory elbow surgery. Will miss the rest of 2000 Season.
#43 Vince Vazquez – Right Elbow
Had successful “Tommy John” elbow surgery. Will miss entire 2000 season.
MIAMI VS. FLORIDA STATE: UM’s 2000 series with Florida State, which began in Tallahassee, marks meeting Nos. 211-213 between the two schools all-time since the 1951 season. FSU holds the lead over Miami, 111-96-3, and swept the Hurricanes in all three games last weekend in Tallahassee.

FSU’s three-game series sweep marked its first over Miami since the 4/9-11/93 in Tallahassee.The last three-game sweep over by FSU over Miami in Tallahassee was 4/9-11/93.It was the first three-game series sweep by FSU over Miami in the Jim Morris era (1994-present ) and just the third since 1972.The 17 innings played in game #1 in Tallahassee marked the longest game in the all-time series, as well as the most innings played in each school’s all-time records.FSU scored 31 runs over last weekend’s three-game series, the most ever by the Seminoles in a three-game series against Miami. MAJOR RECORDS TIED OR BROKEN VS. FSU IN GAME #1:
Most Innings Played — Miami and FSU played 17 innings, before the Seminoles prevailed. The 17 innings marks the most ever by a Hurricane team. UM had played two 16 inning games in its history vs. The Citadel (1979) and Florida (1995).
Team and Individual At Bats in a Game — Mike Rodriguez set a new school record for at bats in a game with nine against FSU in game #1. The old mark was eight, which was tied in the same game by Javy Rodriguez and Kevin Howard. Howard had previously tied the old school record earlier in the season against C.W. Post, held by Ron Batter vs. The Citadel (1979).
Additionally, the team set a new at bat record with 61 vs. FSU in game #1, ahead of the old record (57) set earlier in the season against C.W. Post.
Team and Individual Strikeouts in a Game — Danny Matienzo’s four strikeouts tied the school record set 19 times, last time by Greg Lovelady (vs. FIU, 5/4/99).
Additionally, as a team, the Hurricanes struck out 22 times in game #1 against FSU. This figure eclipses the old mark of 19, set twice vs. Clemson (5/31/96) and Florida Southern (3/15/58).
Team Defensive Putouts — Miami’s 49 putouts in game #1 was one better than the previous school record of 48 set twice, against Florida (2/17/95) and The Citadel (5/8/79).
