Miami is coming off a weekend series with Rutgers, where the Hurricanes took two of three games from the Scarlet Knights. UM clinched the series victory with a 5-3 win on Sunday to extend its streak to 16 consecutive three-game series victories and 38 of the last 39.
The Hurricanes will start sophomore RHP Troy Roberson (1-0, 2.40 ERA) on the mound. Roberson, who began the season as UM’s No. 2 pitcher, returns to the starting rotation after spending nearly three weeks resting a sore elbow. Since his last start at Florida on February 13, Roberson has made two appearances in relief against C.W. Post and Rutgers.
Iona started the season 6-0 before falling to Miami (OH), 10-4, on March 13. Prior to the Miami game, the Gaels will take on Florida International in Homestead on March 14. Iona won the MAAC South Championship in 1999.
Following Iona, the Hurricanes host a three-game series with Michigan this weekend at Mark Light Stadium. Student radio WVUM 90.5 FM will carry all three Rutgers games, while WACC 830 AM will broadcast the Friday game in Spanish. In addition, Friday night’s game will also be televised by Fox Sports Net.
