Coral Gables, FL – Preseason All-American Kevin Brown of the green team scored on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to even the score, 3-3, with the alumni-dominated orange team in the annual University of Miami Alumni Baseball Game at Mark Light Stadium on the UM campus.

The Defending National Champions, who wore green, put together three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to even the score in the seven-inning event. In the inning, freshman outfielder Phillip Buchanon, who also splits time with the UM football team, scored the first run off a Lale Esquivel RBI single to right field. Sophomore shortstop Javy Rodriguez added the second run when freshman designated hitter Danny Matienzo was walked with the bases full. Brown added the third run when junior catcher Greg Lovelady hit a sacrifice fly to center.

The alumni orange team, featuring Florida Marlins infielder Dave Berg (1992-93), jumped out first in the third inning when Brian Seever (1998-99) scored on an Aubrey Huff (1997-98) ground out.

The alumni added two more runs the following inning as current Hurricane Charlton Jimerson singled to second base, scoring teammate Kevin Howard from third, and later scored himself following a wild pitch.

Rodriguez and Esquivel led the 2000 Hurricanes with two hits each, while Huff led the alumni with two hits. All-American David Gil led off the game for the 2000 ‘Canes, going two innings with four strikeouts and zero runs allowed.
