Baseball Coaching Staff Completed

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Athletic Director Paul Deeand head baseball coach Jim Morris announce the hiring of former volunteercoach Gino DiMare as the Hurricanes new Recruiting Coordinator and HittingCoach.

Morris also named former Illinois State assistant coach MarkKingston as UM’s new volunteer coach and David Diggs as Coordinator ofBaseball Operations.

DiMare served as UM’s volunteer coach for the past three seasons incharge of outfielders and baserunning. In addition to his newresponsibilities, DiMare will continue his former duties as well.

DiMare is a life-long resident of Miami and played high schoolbaseball at Westminster Christian High. He went on to become a standoutoutfielder for the Hurricanes from 1989-92 with a career batting average of.290. DiMare currently ranks sixth in career games played (243), eighth incareer stolen bases (93) and fifth in total sacrifices (36) at Miami. In1991, he led the Hurricanes with a .353 batting average.

“Gino has great instincts for the game on and off the field,” saidMorris. “He has been part of this coaching staff for the past three seasonsand played his entire collegiate career at UM. He is a true Miami guy. Iam very excited to have him as our Recruiting Coordinator.”

“This is a great opportunity for me,” added DiMare. “I’ve been partof this program for a long time as a fan, player and coach, so I am lookingforward to this challenge.”

Kingston, who is originally from Virginia, was a four-yearletterwinner as an infielder/outfielder at the University of North Carolina(1989-92). He began his minor league career with a one-year stint playingrookie ball in the Milwaukee Brewers’ organization before moving on to theChicago Cubs’ farm system. Most recently, Kingston served one season withIllinois State following a two-year stint on the Purdue coaching staff.

“Mark has a great background with top collegiate and professionalexperience,” said Morris. “He will assist Coach DiMare with the hitting andserve as our catcher’s coach. He is an exceptional person who will fitright in with this program.”

In addition to DiMare and Kingston, Morris has hired former BarryUniversity assistant coach David Diggs as UM’s new Coordinator of BaseballOperations. Digg’s primary responsibilities will include handling of theHurricanes’ travel and equipment. Diggs, who played collegiate baseball atTemple (1988), was a three-year member of the Barry coaching staff. Hebegan his coaching career in 1990, as an assistant coach with PhiladelphiaCollege of Textiles and Science before moving on to Kenyan (OH) College(1991-93).
