THE MATCHUP:
The University of Miami hosts Northwood University (Fla.) in its lone exhibition game prior to the 2006-07 season.
Northwood, an National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) institution located in West Palm Beach, is competing in its first season of basketball under the guidance of legendary head coach Rollie Massimino.
Massimino, best known for leading Villanova to the 1985 NCAA National title over Georgetown, came out of retirement in April 2005 to become Northwood’s first head basketball coach and director of basketball operations.
The Seahawks opened the season with a 71-40 exhibition loss at Florida on November 2. Northwood was led by sophomore guard Baree Ward who posted 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field.
Northwood turned the ball over 28 times against the Gators but held their own on the glass being outrebounded by only three (37-34).
This will be the Hurricanes’ first game action of the 2006-07 season prior to the season opener against Florida International on November 11th
Miami brings back nine lettermen, including two-year starters Anthony King and Anthony Harris, from last season’s squad that finished 18-16 and advanced to the quarterfinals of National Invitation tournament.
Last season Harris averaged 9.5 points per game, which ranked third on the team, and handed out a team-high 3.07 assists per contest. Over his career Harris is averaging 3.0 assists per game and his 220 career assists ranks 14th on Miami’s all-time list.
King has started all 63 games over the last two seasons. He averaged 8.8 points, a team-high 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game last year. King’s 157 career blocks which ranks fourth on UM’s all-time list.
LAST SEASON’S EXHIBITION GAME:

BankUnited Center, Coral Gables, Fla.
Junior center Anthony King recorded 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the University of Miami men’s basketball team to a 92-79 exhibition game victory over Nova Southeastern University at the Convocation Center.
King, who averaged 6.3 points per game last season, scored seven of the Hurricanes first 11 points and was already in double-figures by the 14:22 mark of the first half. King, a 2004-05 ACC All-Defensive team selection, was very aggressive on the offensive end and showed a variety of moves en route to 13 first half points.
Miami put the game away midway through the first half using an 18-2 run to take a 42-20 with 6:06 to go before halftime. Freshman Brian Asbury keyed the run scoring eight of his 11 points during the stretch.
Also scoring in double-figures for Miami was junior Guillermo Diaz (14 points), senior Robert Hite (14 points) and sophomore Raymond Hicks (14 points). Nova Southeastern was led by sophomore point guard Oresti Nitsios who scored a game-high 21 points.

IT’S ALL ACADEMIC:
Freshmen Brian Asbury, Jimmy Graham and Adrian Thomas were all named to the 2006 ACC All-Academic Basketball team giving the Hurricanes more honorees then any other team in the league.

The Hurricanes have made a three-point basket in 137 consecutive games and have made at least one trey in 583 of 586 games since the NCAA adopted the three-point shot in 1986. Miami is 2-1 all-time when failing to hit a three-pointer.
KEEPING UP WITH KING:
Since 2004-05 Anthony King may be the most improved player in the ACC. King went from a little used reserve in 2003-04 to starting every game the last two seasons. King has improved his scoring , field goal percentage and free throw percentage each season.
HOLDING TEAMS UNDER 100:
The Hurricanes have not allowed an opponent to reach the century mark in 463 consecutive games. The last team to reach the 100-point plateau was Miami (OH) on December 27, 1990 in a 101-99 double-overtime victory over UM. The last team to score 100 points against the Hurricanes in a non-overtime game was at Providence on February 21, 1990, a 101-67 Friar victory. Miami has not allowed a team to score 100 points at home since Kansas defeated Miami 100-73 on January 10, 1990, a current streak of 251 games.
MIAMI CONTINUES 200/100 STREAK:
The Hurricanes recorded 241 steals and 135 blocks last season marking the 12th consecutive year in which they have surpassed both 200 steals and 100 blocks. The 12 season streak is the longest among ACC schools. Duke and Maryland have the next longest streaks at 10 seasons each.
