Miami to Face No. 5 Seminoles in Tallahassee

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face in-state rival and the fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles in an Atlantic Coast Conference match at the Seminole Soccer Complex, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Miami is coming off a 2-0 victory over the No. 9 Maryland Terrapins last Sunday as freshman Jordan Roseboro scored her first collegiate goal in the first half and junior Brittney Steinbruch scored her second of the season in the second half.
The win over Maryland was the first over a ranked team this season and the Hurricanes will look to make it two straight over the Seminoles.
Freshman Kate Howarth leads Miami with three goals on the season, but Steinbruch has a pair of goals and assists to match Howarth with a team-high six points. With 26 career goals, Steinbruch sits just three behind former ‘Cane Britney Blocker for the school’s all-time mark.
In the Miami win over Maryland, two milestones were reached. First, sophomore goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo recorded her 15th career shutout to claim the school record, surpassing Lauren McAdam. Secondly, head coach Tricia Taliaferro won her 100th career game and it came against her alma mater.
A Look at the Seminoles
Florida State will welcome Miami to Tallahassee with a perfect 2-0 record in conference play after defeating Maryland and Boston College last week.
The Seminoles Tiffany McCarty is the reigning National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s National Player of the Week and the ACC Player of the Week after she registered two goals and an assist over two ranked opponents.
McCarty lead the Seminoles with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. FSU has five other players that have scored multiple goals on the season.
As a team, the ‘Noles have scored 38 goals, while only giving up six and goalkeeper Erin McNulty carries a 0.64 goals against average.
The Series
Sunday’s meeting will be the 12th between the two programs – dating back to the 1998 season. The Seminoles hold a 9-2 all-time lead in the series and have won the last nine matches. Last season, FSU was ranked ninth and defeated Miami 2-0 in Coral Gables.
