The program’s all-time winningest coach, Paige Yaroshuk-Tews recently completed her 28th season with the University of Miami women’s tennis team and 24th season as head coach. She was elevated to the Director of Men’s and Women’s Tennis in May 2024.
An outstanding recruiter with unrivaled knowledge of the game and passion for teaching, Yaroshuk-Tews has built the Hurricanes into a national force, reaching the NCAA’s Elite Eight in eight of the last 21 tournaments, the seventh-most quarterfinal appearances in the nation during that span. The Hurricanes also made the Sweet 16 on 16 occasions during that stretch, one of only eight programs to accomplish this feat. Prior to 2025, the Hurricanes turned in 20 straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top-25 finishes, including 14 in the top 15. In nine of the last 18 completed seasons, Miami has ended the year in the top 10. Her overall record of 435-167, with an ACC career record of 186-63, ranks her third in ACC history for career wins. As a result of her unparalleled achievements, Yaroshuk-Tews was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in 2012.
The Hurricanes have not only made the NCAA Team Championship in each of her years as head coach–excluding 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the postseason and the 2025 season–but have also won at least one NCAA match every season. Miami qualified for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships 12 straight years, from 2005-16, and was ranked in the top 10 at some point during the season in each of those campaigns, as well as the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Yaroshuk-Tews annually brings in some of the top prep talent, reloading year in and year out for a program consistently ranked among the nation’s best.
Since taking the head coaching position for the women’s tennis program at Miami in 2001, Yaroshuk-Tews has led the Hurricanes on an unprecedented run in Coral Gables, Fla. In total, she has directed Miami to 15 Sweet 16 berths, eight Elite Eight trips and an appearance in the 2006 NCAA final, the program’s first since 1985.
Miami has hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Team Championship 15 times under Yaroshuk-Tews, including 12 straight years each from 2005-2016. The Hurricanes have turned in 20 straight ITA top-25 finishes, including 14 in the top 15. In nine of the last 20 completed seasons, Miami has ended the year in the top 10.
Individually, Yaroshuk-Tews has guided three players to NCAA Singles Championship crowns, as Audra Cohen won the hardware in 2007, Estela Perez-Somarriba in 2019 and Alexa Noel in 2024. Miami is one of just four schools with multiple NCAA singles titles in the past 18 tournaments, alongside Stanford, Virginia and Georgia. Seven Hurricanes have combined for 10 semifinals berths during that stretch, with both totals the highest marks of any program since 2007. Four players have also combined for five finals appearances in that span, both second-most of any school.
Yaroshuk-Tews also helped a Miami duo reach in the 2022 NCAA Doubles Championship, a first for The U since 1988. It marked the third consecutive tournament the Hurricanes made the finals in either the singles or doubles event, as well as the sixth time in seven years Miami made the semifinals in either field.
Nineteen different Hurricanes have garnered a total of 40 ITA All-America honors under Yaroshuk-Tews, both program records for a coach. In 21 of her 24 seasons, at least one Hurricane has been named an All-American, with multiple players receiving the honor in 12 of them. Under Yaroshuk-Tews’ watch, 20 Hurricanes have combined for 45 All-ACC distinctions and 32 Miami players have totaled 61 Academic All-ACC recognitions. In addition, five Hurricanes have totaled seven ACC Player of the Year plaudits and five have combined for seven ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Six Miami players have also compiled nine total CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-America distinctions.
Prior to joining the Miami staff, Yaroshuk-Tews worked at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Player Development Headquarters in Key Biscayne, Fla., as a traveling coach with the top U.S. junior players. Before her USTA appointment, Yaroshuk-Tews played professionally in satellite and challenger events. A Miami native and Killian High School graduate, Yaroshuk-Tews stood out among Florida juniors. In the Girl’s 18 Division, she held the No. 1 ranking in Florida and the No. 8 spot nationally.
