W. Tennis Earns 28th Straight NCAA Tournament Appearance
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the 28th consecutive year, the University of Miami women’s tennis team is headed to the NCAA Team Championship. The Hurricanes will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the first and second rounds of the tournament.
Ranked No. 22 nationally, Miami (11-7, 8-4 ACC) currently sits with the 10th-longest active streak at the Division I level, dating back to 1996.
Hosted on the University of Florida campus, the Hurricanes will open play against cross-town rival No. 28 FIU in the Round of 64 on Friday or Saturday. In the other first-round matchup, No. 15 Florida will face Stetson.
The winners of each match will go head-to-head on Saturday or Sunday, competing for a spot in the Round of 16.
Miami will make its 38th appearance in the program’s 42-year long history, coming in with a 58-37 all-time record in the NCAA postseason. They have made the second round in each of their last 21 berths, going back to head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ first season at the helm, and reached the Sweet 16 in 13 of the past 17 tournaments.
Six Hurricanes are featured in the latest ITA rankings across singles and doubles. Redshirt-junior Alexa Noel is amongst the top-15 players, ranking 11th, while seniors Isabella Pfennig and Audrey Boch-Collins are ranked No. 47 and No. 114, respectively. Three duos also check into the polls, with Pfennig and sophomore Xinyi Nong at No. 29, Nong and Noel at No. 77 and seniors Leonie Schuknecht and Antonia Balzert at No. 86.
FIU (19-2) has one ranked singles player with No. 54 Oyinlomo Quadre and one ranked doubles pair of No. 53 Katerina Mandelikova and Oyinlomo Quadre.
Florida (16-8) has five ranked singles players, highlighted by No. 7 Rachel Gailis and followed by No. 56 Carly Briggs, No. 61 Emily de Oliveira, No. 73 Sara Dahlstrom and No. 125 Qavia Lopez. They also check in one ranked doubles pair of No. 72 Alicia Dudeney and Malwina Rowinska.
Stetson does not have any ranked players.
