Goalkeeper Atlee Olofson Nets Game-Winner in Miami Soccer’s 2-1 Victory

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team extended its winning streak to four on Thursday night, defeating Incarnate Word, 2-1, in its 2026 home opener at Cobb Stadium. The victory improved the Hurricanes to 4-1-0 on the season.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Incarnate Word struck first in the 55th minute to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.

Miami responded less than six minutes later as Cisel Akguel delivered the equalizer in the 61st minute, scoring her first goal of the season to even the match at 1-1.

With the match still tied late in the second half, goalkeeper Atlee Olofson stepped up to the penalty spot in the 85th minute and converted for the game-winning goal, recording the first goal of her career and lifting the Hurricanes to a 2-1 advantage. Olofson also played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save.

The Hurricanes controlled the offensive opportunities throughout the night, outshooting the Cardinals, 16-2, including a 12-1 advantage in the second half. Miami placed five shots on goal while holding a commanding 13-1 edge in corner kicks.

Miami returns to action Thursday, Sept. 3, as the Hurricanes remain at home to host App State at Cobb Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
