Morales Lifts Miami over Louisiana, 8-5
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Big time players step up in big games.
On the biggest stage of his collegiate career, Yohandy Morales shined the brightest.
Morales mashed a pair of home runs and plated three runs to lead the top-seeded Miami Hurricanes over No. 3 seed Louisiana, 8-5, Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field.
The junior third baseman socked solo shots in both the seventh and ninth innings helped the Hurricanes (42-20) fend off the late Louisiana (41-24) rally.
Morales’ round-tripper in the ninth was his 48th of his career, tying him with Kevin Brown for fourth all-time in program history. His fourth knock of the day also marked his 236th career hit, which put the Miami native into the top 10 as well.
Junior right-handers Alejandro Rosario and Andrew Walters teamed up to contain the pesky Cajuns.
Rosario (5-6) struck out six batters over as many, limiting Louisiana to three earned runs. The 6-foot hurler tossed 114 pitches, the most by a Hurricane since Brian Van Belle against Central Michigan on June 2, 2019.
Walters (12) went the final three frames, punching out four batters. His 49-pitch outing sealed the win and set up a rematch against second-seeded Texas at 6 p.m. Sunday.
