SugarCanes Set to Return to Mark Light Field

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the SugarCanes are coming back to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

“We are very happy to have the SugarCanes back at our ballpark this season,” Miami head coach Gino DiMare said. “Just like the Miami Maniac, Mark Light Milkshakes and JayRo, the SugarCanes are a vital part of the tradition and fan experience at The Light.”

Started by Ron Fraser, “The Wizard of College Baseball,” ahead of the 1969 season, the SugarCanes were founded with the goal of assisting the marketing and promotion of the Hurricanes baseball program.

The SugarCanes, who were the first group of collegiate batgirls, are comprised of a team of University of Miami students. They are responsible for retrieving the bats and foul balls for both the Hurricanes and the visiting team as well as helping with delivering Mark Light Milkshakes.
