Trio of Hurricanes Picks Up ACC Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three Hurricanes were recognized for outstanding performances in Miami’s 47-34 win at #18/#16 Louisville, earning selections from the Atlantic Coast Conference as recipients of the conference’s weekly football awards.
Quarterback D’Eriq King (ACC Quarterback of the Week), safety Bubba Bolden (ACC Defensive Back of the Week) and kicker Jose Borregales (ACC Specialist of the Week) were all honored by the ACC Monday.
Bolden had the most productive game of his Miami Hurricanes career Saturday. The Las Vegas native totaled a career-best 11 total tackles (nine solo) to lead all players and added one tackle for loss. He finished with one forced fumble in his first start of the season and second of his career for the Hurricanes.
In one of the most impressive special teams performances in recent history, Borregales tied the school record and set a Cardinal Stadium record with a 57-yard field goal in the win. Borregales, who also connected from 48 yards, 22 yards and 40 yards, tied the Cardinal Stadium record with four made field goals on the night, none more impressive than the 57-yarder that had been done only twice in Hurricanes history.
Though his FBS record with at least one rushing and passing touchdown came to an end at 16 games, King delivered another dominant showing to help Miami secure a road win over a top-20 opponent. King threw for three touchdowns, including a 75-yard score, and 325 yards on 18-for-30 passing to help the Hurricanes secure the win.
#12/#14 Miami (2-0, 1-0 ACC) will host its annual rivalry matchup with Florida State (0-1, 0-1 ACC) on Sat., Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
