Canes Baseball Hosting Book Drive at Towson Series

The University of Miami baseball program is calling local fans and community members to participate in its first-ever book drive that will benefit the United Way of Miami-Dade ReadingPals program.

The Hurricanes have set a goal of collecting 1,000 new books, appropriate for Pre-K to Kindergarten students, throughout the Miami Baseball series when they host Towson Friday, February 28th through Sunday, March 1 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

Any person who donates a book will receive complimentary entry into the game. Staff from the United Way of Miami-Dade will be onsite to accept gift card donations to local book retailers.

The ReadingPals program pairs volunteers with children to help build vocabulary and other literacy skills by reading high quality books and engaging them in interactive learning. The United Way of Miami-Dade is one of 17 United Ways in Florida to receive a grant for the program, now starting its sixth consecutive year. 45% of children in Florida are not ready for Kindergarten and 43% of Florida students cannot ready at a minimally proficient level by the end of third grade.
