Football Accepts Bid to 2019 Walk-On's Independence Bowl
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football program announced Sunday that it has accepted a bid to the 2019 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl and will take on Louisiana Tech at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La.
The game will be aired live on Dec. 26 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN, 560 WQAM and Unanimo Deportes.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl,” Director of Athletics Blake James said. “The bowl’s staff and the people of Shreveport always put on a terrific show for the visiting teams and this promises to be a fun experience for both our student-athletes and our fan base.”
Miami’s appearance in the 2019 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl marks the 43rd time in school history the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game and seventh straight year in which the Hurricanes will compete in a postseason game; Miami owns a 20-22 overall record in 42 previous bowl games.
Miami’s matchup with Louisiana Tech (9-3, 6-2 C-USA) represents the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools and the first head-to-head contest since 2004; UM carries a perfect 4-0 all-time record into the game.
The Hurricanes’ appearance in the Independence Bowl is the second in program history; Miami lost, 24-21, to South Carolina in the 2014 Independence Bowl.
The Hurricanes (6-6, 4-4 ACC) saw their last bowl win come in the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl over West Virginia, 31-14, on Dec. 28, 2016.

All Hurricanes fans can now request tickets online at hurricanesports.com/tickets. The priority seating deadline is Monday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. Seating allocations will be assigned based on Hurricane Member Allocation Tier. Once those tickets have been assigned, the public will receive the best remaining locations. Starting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the best available seats will be assigned upon the order being processed.
