Jordan Selected to Mackey Award Watch List
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore tight end Brevin Jordan was among the 60 players named to the 2019 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, the Friends of John Mackey announced Friday.
Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2019 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on Dec. 11 and then presented live on Dec. 12 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Jordan delivered a standout freshman campaign in 2018, making 11 starts and earning second-team All-ACC honors. Jordan caught 32 passes – second-most on the Hurricanes – for 287 yards. He had four touchdown receptions, which were also second-most on the team, and had a long reception of 41 yards. The Las Vegas native saw action in 12 of 13 games and made 11 starts in his debut season.
Jordan is the fourth Hurricane to garner preseason plaudits; earlier this week, junior defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin and senior linebacker Shaq Quarterman were tabbed to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, and redshirt senior wide receiver K.J. Osborn was named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award Thursday.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, recognizes fifteen alumni that have played in the NFL. The Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 25 awards now boast over 800 recipients, dating to 1935. Visit NCFAA.org to learn more about the association.
