Canes Baseball Remains Ranked in Top 20

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball program enters the 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship ranked in the top 20 of every major poll.
 
The Hurricanes (39-18, 18-12 ACC)held steady in the D1Baseball Top 25 at No. 17. Miami came in at No. 18 in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Div. I Baseball Poll and No. 19 in the Baseball America Top 25. The Canes were ranked No. 20 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the NCBWA Top 25.
 
Miami went 1-1 in the week, beating Virginia in their first game at the ACC Baseball Championship before falling in extra innings to eventual conference champion North Carolina to close out pool play.
 
The Canes put up double-digit runs and got strong pitching from a trio of right-handers to improve to 4-0 on the year against the Cavaliers. With the seven-run victory inside Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Miami won its ACC Championship opener for the fifth consecutive season.
 
Miami jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings against UNC, but the Tar Heels came back to force extra innings before taking the lead for good in the top of the 11th inning.
 
The Canes enter the week ranked 17th in RPI and 26th in strength of schedule according to WarrenNolan.com
 
Miami will begin play in the NCAA tournament on Friday, facing off against Central Michigan at 8 p.m. ET. Second-seeded Miami (39-18) will join host and first-seeded Mississippi St. (46-13), third-seeded Central Michigan (46-12) and fourth-seeded Southern (32-22) in the Starkville Regional.
