Miami Among Biggest Risers in Major Polls

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes were one of the biggest risers in both major polls released Sunday, jumping to No. 16 in both the Associated Press top 25 and the Amway Coaches Poll.

The Hurricanes (3-1), who topped FIU, 31-17, in their final nonconference game of the regular season, jumped five spots in the AP poll (from No. 21) and four spots in the Amway Coaches Poll (No. 20).

Miami’s position of No. 16 in the AP Top 25 was its 22nd straight appearance in the poll, marking the fifth-longest streak in program history. Miami’s 22nd consecutive position in the AP poll represents the 10th-longest active streak in the country.

Senior defensive lineman Gerald Willis III, who recorded three tackles for loss, and junior running back Travis Homer, who posted his first 100-yard rushing game of the season and fourth of his career, were among Miami’s top performers against the Panthers. Redshirt freshman quarterback N’Kosi Perry threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

The Miami Hurricanes continue their schedule on Thursday, Sept. 27 with their Atlantic Coast Conference opener against Coastal Division foe North Carolina (1-2). Kickoff for the matchup, set for broadcast on ESPN, 560 WQAM, 990 AM ESPN Deportes and WVUM 90.5 FM, is set for 8 p.m. ET.
