Football Ranked in Top 25 of Both Major Polls

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team checked in at No. 22 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 21 in the Amway Coaches Poll Tuesday.

The Hurricanes (0-1), who fell to then-No. 25/24 LSU, 33-17, in the 2018 AdvoCare Classic on Sept. 2, were ranked No. 8 in both polls last week.

Redshirt defensive lineman Gerald Willis III, who delivered an eight-tackle performance, and sophomore wide receiver Jeff Thomas, who totaled career-best marks in catches (five) and yards (132), were among Miami’s top performers against the Tigers.

Miami’s position of No. 22 in the AP Top 25 marked the 19th straight week in the poll, extending the sixth-longest streak in program history. Miami’s 19 straight appearances in the AP poll represent the 10th-longest active streak in the country.

The Miami Hurricanes open their home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Savannah State (0-1). Kickoff for the matchup, set for broadcast on ACC Network Extra, 560 WQAM, 990 AM ESPN Deportes and WVUM 90.5 FM, is set for 6 p.m. ET.
