Johnson Named ACC Defensive Back of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior defensive back Jaquan Johnson was among those recognized with weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference, it was announced Monday.
Johnson, who was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week, joins Braxton Berrios (Receiver of the Week, Oct. 9), Darrell Langham (Co-Receiver of the Week, Oct. 16), Michael Badgley (Specialist of the Week, Oct. 16), Christopher Herndon (Receiver of the Week, Oct. 23), Michael Pinckney (Linebacker of the Week, Oct. 23) and RJ McIntosh (Defensive Lineman of the Week, Oct. 30) as Miami honorees through the first 10 weeks of the season.
The Miami native delivered another standout performance in the secondary to help key a dominant defensive performance for the Hurricanes, who topped Virginia Tech, 28-10, at Hard Rock Stadium Saturday in a crucial Coastal Division matchup.
The junior tied for the Miami lead with seven tackles (six solo) and wore the famed “turnover chain” twice – once for a forced fumble in the second quarter and another for an interception in the third quarter.
Johnson, who helped Miami hold Virginia Tech to just 299 total yards of offense, has started every game this season at safety and leads all Hurricanes with 58 total tackles (36 solo).
Miami continues a three-game homestand with a rivalry matchup against Notre Dame on Nov. 11 at Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on ABC, 560 WQAM and 990AM ESPN Deportes.
