Bargfeldt Recognized With All-ACC Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior Jeb Bargfeldt was among those recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference with All-ACC honors, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Bargfeldt, a lefthanded pitcher out of Owasso, Okla., was named to the All-ACC Second Team after a standout first season with the Hurricanes.
Serving as the team’s top starting pitcher and making 14 starts as a member of the weekend rotation, Bargfeldt compiled a 7-3 record with a team-best 2.20 ERA across 82.0 innings.
“We thought so, but sometimes those lefthanders are hard to judge,” head coach Jim Morris said when asked about realizing how special Bargfeldt could be in his first year. “He’s a J.D. [Arteaga]-type pitcher –a finesse guy who moves the ball in and out. He has worked very hard. He works great with J.D. from that standpoint. I felt from the beginning, he was going to be our No. 1 or No. 2 guy.”
Bargfeldt was particularly impressive in ACC play. In 10 starts against ACC competition, he finished 6-2 with a 1.63 ERA – the lowest among any starting pitcher in the entire conference – and held opposing ACC foes to a paltry .172 average.
In 14 total starts, Bargfeldt went at least six innings eight times.
He tossed the first complete game by a Hurricane since 2015 in a 5-1 win over No. 10 Virginia on May 12, and threw at least seven innings in four of his final five starts this season.
“He’s been our most consistent pitcher, without question,” Morris said. “He deserves to be in that No. 1 spot in the rotation, from what he’s done, how he’s done it and the teams he has beaten – it’s all very special. He’s a great team player, a great student, and we’re very lucky to have Jeb on our team.”
