Williams Selected in Seventh Round of 2017 NFL Draft
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes fullback Marquez Williams was selected with the 240th overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday afternoon in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
With his selection, Williams becomes the first Hurricane fullback drafted since the Cincinnati Bengals picked Nick Luchey in 1999. The Athens, Ga., native is just the second Miami fullback to be taken in the NFL Draft’s modern era.
Williams arrived in Coral Gables after he spent three years at Mars Hill University (N.C.). In his lone season, Williams served as the Hurricanes’ starting fullback for the entire 2016 campaign, seeing action in all 13 games with five starts.
Williams caught the Hurricanes’ first touchdown of the year against Florida A&M, as he hauled in a four-yard reception.
During his three seasons at Mars Hill, he was a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, earning first team accolades in 2015.
