@CanesWTennis Opens Road Slate at No. 18 Texas

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to play away from home for the first time in 2017 this weekend.

No. 17 Miami (1-1) will take on No. 18 Texas Saturday at noon ET in a top-20 showdown at the Whitaker Courts in Austin, Texas.

This will be the 24th all-time meeting between the Hurricanes and Longhorns, with Miami holding a 13-10 edge. In the most recent matchup, Miami registered a 6-1 road victory over No. 22 Texas on March 22, 2013.

Texas (1-2) features a pair of players who are ranked in the ITA’s national singles rankings, with Neda Koprcina at No. 79 and Bianca Turati at No. 85.

In doubles, the Longhorns have one pair that appears on the ITA’s list, as Petra Granic and Dani Wagland check in at No. 53.

Meanwhile, Miami has three ranked singles players, with junior Sinead Lohan leading the group at sixth in the country. Freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba is next at No. 94 nationally and she is followed by redshirt senior Maci Epstein at No. 100.

Junior Silvia Fuentes and redshirt sophomore Yolimar Ogando form Miami’s ranked doubles duo, with the pair holding the No. 54 position.
