Fuentes Earns First ITA Ranking, Lohan Still Sixth
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The first in-season ITA singles and doubles rankings were released Wednesday afternoon and five different members of the University of Miami women’s tennis team are represented.
As was the case in the pre-spring rankings, three Hurricanes are featured on the singles list and one pair is included on the doubles list.
In singles, the three players remained the same, but the positions changed for two of them. Junior Sinead Lohan, a two-time ITA All-American in singles, held steady at sixth nationally.
Meanwhile, freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba, 5-0 so far this spring, is now ranked No. 94 in the country and redshirt senior Maci Epstein checks in at No. 100.
In doubles, junior Silvia Fuentes and redshirt sophomore Yolimar Ogando form the nation’s No. 54 duo. For Fuentes, this is the first time she has received an ITA ranking, in singles or doubles, in her career. It is also the first time Ogando has been ranked in doubles.
The ITA did not release team rankings this week, keeping the Hurricanes at No. 17 overall. However, the first-ever USTA team rankings were published Wednesday and Miami was slotted at No. 19, tied with USC.
The Hurricanes will return to action Saturday when they match up with No. 18 Texas at noon in Austin, Texas.
