@CanesWTennis Set to Host ITA Kick-Off Weekend

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team will begin dual match play this weekend in ITA Kick-Off Weekend competition.

One of 15 host teams for the event, No. 12 Miami will be joined by No. 22 Texas A&M, South Alabama and Brown at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The top-seeded Hurricanes will first square off against the fourth-seeded Bears Saturday at 10 a.m. The second-seeded Aggies then meet the third-seeded Jaguars at 2 p.m.

Saturday’s losing teams will play each other Sunday at 10 a.m., and the winning teams will face off at 1 p.m., with a berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on the line. Miami is seeking its 13th straight appearance in the field and 17th trip overall.

Miami’s first contest of the weekend, against Brown, will be the 200th home match of 16th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ career. She has posted an astounding 186-13 home record thus far, good for a .935 winning percentage.

The Hurricanes feature a trio of ranked singles players in junior Sinead Lohan at No. 6, freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba at No. 69 and redshirt senior Maci Epstein at No. 70. Texas A&M’s Tina Bokhua and Rachel Pierson rank No. 57 and No. 85, respectively.

In doubles, Lohan and freshman Dominika Paterova check in at No. 47 nationally. The Aggies’ Pierson and Rutuja Bhosale are No. 17, while Brown’s Alyza Benotto and Dayna Lord check in at No. 45.

As is the case with all home regular season matches, entry is free and team posters will be available at the marketing table. Live stats for action can be found HERE.
