@CanesWTennis Opens 2017 with Miami Spring Invite
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will begin its 2017 spring campaign this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
No. 12 Miami will host a trio of top-20 teams for the Miami Spring Invite from Friday through Sunday. Joining the Hurricanes in the field are ninth-ranked Vanderbilt, No. 13 Texas Tech and No. 20 Kentucky.
The event features 10 singles players ranked in the ITA’s top 85 nationally and a quintet of doubles pairs in the doubles rankings.
Miami, ranked in the top 15 to start the season for the 13th straight year, has junior Sinead Lohan leading the way on the singles list at sixth in the country. Redshirt senior Maci Epstein has the highest mark of her career at No. 69 and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba is right behind her at No. 70.
In addition, Lohan teams with freshman Dominika Paterova in the No. 47 position on the ITA’s doubles list.
Vanderbilt, coming off back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances, features second-ranked Astra Sharma, No. 19 Sydney Campbell and No. 28 Christina Rosca in the singles rankings and no duos in the doubles rankings.
Texas Tech has Gabriela Talaba at No. 26 and Felicity Maltby at No. 81 in singles, as well as Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici at No. 14 in doubles.
For Kentucky, Aldila Sutjiadi is ranked No. 12 in singles and Akvilé Para?inskaité checks in at No. 74. Sutjiadi joins Mami Adachi to form the top-ranked doubles duo in the country, while Para?inskaité pairs with Emily Fanning at No. 57.
Action will begin with doubles competition each day. Play is set to start at 8 a.m., both Friday and Sunday and at 9 a.m., Saturday. Singles matches will open no earlier than 30 minutes after doubles play starts.
Friday, the Hurricanes will play Texas Tech in doubles and Kentucky in singles. Saturday, Miami takes on Vanderbilt in doubles and Texas Tech in singles. Sunday, the Hurricanes are set to face Kentucky in doubles and Vanderbilt in singles.
