#ProCanes Report - 10/17/16
The Monday #ProCanes Report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami football standouts did during the week prior. In a matchup featuring two of the greatest running backs in Miami Hurricanes history, Lamar Miller’s Houston Texans emerged with a thrilling victory over Frank Gore and the Indianapolis Colts, thanks in large part to Miller’s 149 yards and an eye-popping fourth-quarter score. Read on for more from around the NFL.
TOP PERFORMERS
Frank Gore (Indianapolis Colts) – 22 carries, 106 yards
One of running back Frank Gore’s best performances of the season was not enough for the Colts, who fell to Houston 26-23 in overtime on Sunday. Gore rushed for 106 yards on 22 carries, including a long run of 22 yards in the defeat. The 100-yard game was the first for a Colts player since 2012, and his streak of 82 consecutive starts that continued Monday is the longest active streak by any running back in the NFL since 2005. Gore is on pace for 1,156 yards this season. His 12,474 yards are the most by any Hurricane in NFL history and the ninth-most of any player all-time.
Lamar Miller (Houston Texans) – 24 carries, 149 yards, one rushing TD, 29 receiving yards, one receiving TD
Facing a 14-point deficit with less than four minutes remaining, Houston turned to running back Lamar Miller to help launch a comeback effort, and he came through. Miller delivered one of the most impressive individual plays of the season on a 10-yard touchdown reception, maneuvering past seven Indianapolis players into the end zone for Houston’s first of three straight scores in a successful come-from-behind effort. Miller rushed for 149 yards on 24 carries and added a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter in a 26-23 victory over Indianapolis.
Jimmy Graham (Seattle Seahawks) – sixcatches, 89 yards
A clear candidate for NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Jimmy Graham continued his resurgence with another dominant effort Sunday in a win over Atlanta. Graham was targeted nine times by quarterback Russell Wilson – the most of any Seattle player – and hauled in six passes for a team-high 89 yards. Graham has 302 receiving yards over the team’s past three games, and has helped lead Seattle to a four-game winning streak. His 355 receiving yards this season are the third-most of any tight end in the NFL.
Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers) – six catches, 94 yards
It has been a disappointing start to the year for the 1-5 Carolina Panthers, but Greg Olsen has been among the team’s bright spots. Olsen, who hauled in seven catches for 94 yards in a 41-38 setback at New Orleans Sunday, ranks second in the NFL among all pass-catchers with 610 receiving yards through six games. The 10th-year tight end is on pace to shatter his career-high mark of 1,104 receiving yards from 2015, when he helped lead Carolina to the Super Bowl. He has at least 60 yards in every game this season.
