@CanesWTennis to Face No. 10 Michigan in Sweet 16

TULSA, Okla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play in the NCAA Team Championship Sweet 16 for the 11th consecutive year Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Seventh-ranked and seventh-seeded Miami (21-5, 12-2 ACC) will meet Michigan (22-6, 10-1 B1G), both ranked and seeded No. 10, at 1 p.m. ET on the campus of the University of Tulsa.

The Hurricanes are 8-7 all-time against the Wolverines, including 1-1 in NCAA tournament action and 1-4 at neutral sites. The teams met earlier this season in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Feb. 5 in Madison, Wis., with Michigan earning a 4-2 victory.

Michigan is coached by Ronni Bernstein, née Reis, a Miami alumna, who stands as the only eight-time ITA All-American in program history. She won the 1986 NCAA Doubles Championship with partner Lise Gregory.

The Wolverines won 4-0 over Ball State and then 4-1 against No. 22 Kentucky in the first two rounds of the NCAA Team Championship.

Michigan features a trio of singles players in the Oracle/ITA rankings. Ronit Yurovsky is No. 15, Brienne Minor checks in at No. 19 and Kate Fahey holds the No. 68 position.

In doubles, Minor and Mira Rudor-Hook are ranked No. 11, while Minor also sits in the 50 spot with Fahey.

As has been the case all spring, Miami has a quartet of ranked singles players. Sophomore Sinead Lohan and senior Stephanie Wagner are the lone top-10 teammate duo in Division I, coming in at eighth and ninth, respectively. Yolimar Ogando, who has yet to play in 2016 due to injury, is ranked No. 42 and fellow sophomore Wendy Zhang checks in at No. 75.

Wagner and Zhang form the No. 12 doubles pair in the Oracle/ITA rankings, while Wagner also joins senior Clementina Riobueno at No. 55.
