@CanesWTennis in Top 10 for Sixth Week in a Row
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the fifth consecutive week, the University of Miami women’s tennis team is ranked seventh nationally in the Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced Tuesday.
This is seventh time in the last eight weeks the Hurricanes are in the top 10, including their sixth straight week in the top seven.
Miami (19-5, 12-2) is one of five ACC schools in the top 16, tied with the SEC for the most of any conference. The Hurricanes advanced to the ACC Championship final for the sixth time in program history last week, before falling to top-seeded North Carolina, 4-2, to snap a 15-match winning streak.
As has been the case all spring, senior Stephanie Wagner and sophomore Sinead Lohan are both in the top 10 of the Oracle/ITA singles rankings. Wagner checks in eighth this week, while Lohan is ninth. They are the only top-10 teammate duo in Division I.
Also ranked in singles are sophomores Yolimar Ogando and Wendy Zhang, who hold the No. 42 and No. 70 positions, respectively. Ogando has yet to play this spring due to injury.
In doubles, Wagner and Zhang come in at No. 10 in the nation, marking the sixth consecutive rankings release they are in the top 10. Wagner also sits in the No. 64 spot with fellow senior Clementina Riobueno.
Miami will learn its NCAA Team Championship draw Tuesday, May 3, at 5 p.m., on NCAA.com’s selection show. The Hurricanes have reached the field in 20 years in a row, hosting the first two rounds each of the past 11 seasons and making the Sweet 16 in each of the last 10.
