@CanesWTennis Stays at No. 7 in ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is in the top 10 of the Oracle/ITA national rankings for the sixth time in the past seven weeks, including the fifth in a row.
The Hurricanes are ranked seventh in this week’s rankings, released Tuesday, marking the fourth straight week Miami has held that spot.
Miami (17-4, 12-2 ACC) is one of three ACC teams in the top 10, along with second-ranked North Carolina and eighth-ranked Duke. The trio of top-10 teams is tied for the most of any conference in the country.
For the second consecutive week, the nationally-ranked Hurricanes in singles and doubles saw little movement in their positions.
Senior Stephanie Wagner and sophomore Sinead Lohan are again ranked sixth and eighth, respectively. They are once again one of just two teammate duos both ranked in the top 10 in singles.
Sophomore Yolimar Ogando, despite having not played yet in 2016 due to injury, is ranked No. 43 in the country. Sophomore Wendy Zhang moved up three places to No. 61 nationally, tying her top mark of the season.
Wagner and Zhang are in the top 10 of the doubles list for the fifth straight rankings release, this time holding the ninth position. Wagner also forms the No. 69 duo in the nation with fellow senior Clementina Riobueno, both of whom were honored during Miami’s senior day ceremony Sunday.
The Hurricanes, who are currently on a 13-match winning streak, will begin postseason play Friday at 10 a.m., in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship in Cary, N.C. After its double bye, second-seeded Miami will face No. 7 Syracuse, No. 10 NC State or No. 15 Louisville.
