Canes Keep No. 1 Ranking in National Polls

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — For the second consecutive week, the Miami Hurricanes baseball team earned the No. 1 ranking in several college baseball polls.

After finishing 4-1 on the week, Miami checked in at No. 1 in five of the six major national rankings: Baseball America, Perfect Game, D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

A week after sweeping the top spot in all six major polls, Miami fell to No. 2 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) top 25.

The Hurricanes (29-5, 13-3 ACC), who have a five-game lead in the ACC Coastal Division, topped Nova Southeastern and UCF in midweek games and won two of three in a weekend series against Duke at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Miami has not lost a series since dropping two of three games to then-No. 1 Florida from Feb. 26-28, a stretch of seven straight weekend series. The Hurricanes are 24-3 in their last 27 games.

Monday marked the first time the Hurricanes were ranked first in back-to-back weeks since June 3rd / June 10th, 2008.

The Hurricanes return to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field Wednesday for a midweek matchup with No. 21 Florida Atlantic. First pitch for the game, slated for broadcast on ESPN3, is set for 6 p.m.
