@CanesWTennis Remains No. 7 in the Country
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is ranked seventh in the Oracle/ITA national rankings for the third week in a row, as announced Tuesday.
The Hurricanes have now been in the top 10 in five of the past six weeks, including each of the past four. Miami (15-4, 10-2 ACC), currently on an 11-match winning streak, is one of three ACC teams ranked in the top 10, tied for the most of any conference. The five ACC teams in the top 16 are also tied for the most in the country.
Miami had limited movement for its four ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs. All of them stayed within four spots of their positions last week.
Senior Stephanie Wagner and sophomore Sinead Lohan are again one of just two teammate duos in the top 10, checking in at sixth and eighth, respectively. Both 2015 ITA All-Americans have been ranked in the top 10 the entire spring.
Yolimar Ogando ascended four spots to No. 37 nationally despite having yet to play this spring due to injury. Fellow sophomore Wendy Zhang is ranked No. 64 on the singles list, marking the third time in her career, and second week in a row, she has had a top-70 ranking.
In doubles, Wagner and Zhang moved up one place to eighth in the country, their highest position of the season and the best doubles ranking of Zhang’s career. Wagner is also paired with senior Clementina Riobueno in the No. 66 spot.
The Hurricanes will wrap up the regular season this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Miami is set to face No. 32 Syracuse Friday at 11 a.m., and then will meet Louisville Sunday at noon on ESPN3.
The match against the Cardinals will be senior day for Riobueno and Wagner, both of whom have earned ITA All-America honors during their Miami careers.
