Perez Set for Two Matches vs. United States

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Catalina Perez of the University of Miami soccer team will be a part of the Colombian Women’s National Team facing off against the United States in a pair of matches this week.

The first contest between the two sides is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Conn., and will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.

Play will then move to Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa., for a 2 p.m. match Sunday, with the action broadcast live on ESPN. Both competitions are international friendlies.

“We see these games as great opportunities to execute our individual responsibilities and to continue strengthening ourselves for all that is to come,” Perez said. “I feel honored to be a part of a team that fights for our goals and for what we believe in.”

This will not be the first time Perez takes on the USWNT, as the 5-foot-8-inch goalkeeper was a member of Colombia’s 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and earned the starting nod in the team’s round of 16 match against the U.S. Perez did not concede a goal during her time in net in the team’s first-ever knockout round match.

Perez, the ESPN Deportes West Palm 760 AM 2015 Palm Beach County Hispanic Female Athlete of the Year, has been training with her national team in advance of this summer’s Olympic Games.

A redshirt sophomore in 2015, Perez started eight matches for the Hurricanes, ranking third in the ACC in saves per match (4.60). She was named the College Soccer 360 National Primetime Player of the Week, Top Drawer Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week and ACC Defensive Player of the Week after her 106-minute clean sheet in Miami’s double overtime win against No. 14/4 Notre Dame on Oct. 2, 2015.
