@CanesWTennis to Host ITA Kick-Off Weekend
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to host ITA Kick-Off Weekend Friday and Saturday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes are one of 16 women’s tennis hosting action this weekend in the preliminary tournament for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The winners of the four-team pod at each host site advance to play in the prestigious event in Madison, Wis., Feb. 5-8. Miami has made the tournament in each of the past 11 years and has 15 total appearances in the field.
No. 12 Miami is seeded first in its group this weekend, with No. 41 Auburn (1-0) second, followed by No. 69 Michigan State (2-0) third and Middle Tennessee (2-0) fourth.
The Hurricanes open play Friday at 10 a.m. against the Blue Raiders and then the Tigers and Spartans meet at 2 p.m. The winners will square off Saturday at 2 p.m. for a berth in ITA National Indoors, while the losers are set to play before that at 10 a.m. in a consolation match.
Miami features four ranked singles players in sophomore Sinead Lohan (No. 7), senior Stephanie Wagner (No. 9), sophomore Yolimar Ogando (No. 21) and sophomore Wendy Zhang (No. 80). Auburn’s Andie Dikosavljevic is also nationally ranked, checking in at No. 31.
In doubles, Wagner and fellow senior Clementina Riobueno form the nation’s No. 22 pair, while Pleun Burgmans and Paula de Man of the Tigers are ranked No. 30.
