Kaaya Named to Midseason Watch List for POY

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Miami sophomore quarterback Brad Kaaya was among the 32 players on the 2015 Midseason Watch List for the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Trophy.

The list, released Monday, includes 23 quarterbacks and nine running backs at the FBS level.

Kaaya, one of just four National Performer of the Year candidates from the ACC, is coming off a career performance on the road at Florida State. Kaaya set career marks in completions (29), attempts (49) and yards (405) against the nationally ranked Seminoles, tossing three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Kaaya, the reigning ACC Rookie of the Year, rose to the top of the conference leaderboard in a number of individual categories after his performance against the Seminoles. He leads the ACC in total offense per game (292.4), passing yards (1,499), and passing yards per game (299.8), is tied for the lead in pass attempts (189) and ranks second in pass completions (115).

The West Hills, Calif., native compiled just the 11th 400-yard passing game (since 1980) by a Miami quarterback Oct. 10 against Florida State, marking the most prolific performance against the Seminoles  by a Miami QB dating back 25 seasons.

Kaaya has eight touchdowns and just one interception this season, and has thrown just four interceptions in his last 391 pass attempts dating back to 2014.

The 2015 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. All FBS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 13, 2016.
