MIAMI-FSU – ONE OF THE BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL RIVALRIES
-Nearly half of all Miami-Florida State games (28 of 57 previous meetings) have been decided by eight points or less, including last year’s match up.
-Seven games in the series have been decided by a single point. Miami is 7-0 in those games.
-Saturday night will mark the 27th time in the last 31 years that at least one team has entered the Miami-Florida State game unbeaten.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Heading into the sixth week of the college football season, the Hurricanes rank among the Top 10 in six NCAA categories. The Canes also lead the NCAA in fewest tackles for loss allowed.
YIPPEE KAAYA
-Sophomore QB Brad Kaaya leads the ACC in passing yards per game total and offense per game entering the sixth week of the season.
-Last week against Cincinnati, Kaaya had his consecutive touchdown pass streak end at 16 consecutive games. The only Miami quarterback in the last 20 years with a longer such streak is Ken Dorsey, who had separate streaks of 23 and 17 games.
-Kaaya has thrown just four interceptions in his last 342 attempts. He has thrown for more than 200 yards in 12 of his 17 career games and has four 300-yard performances.
-In his start against Nebraska, Kaaya threw for a career-high 379 yards, two TDs and one INT. The performance earned Kaaya ACC Offensive Back of the Week honors.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA DUO
-South Florida products Joe Yearby (535) and Mark Walton (311) have combined for 846 all purpose yards and eight touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
-Of their 846 all purpose yards, Yearby (424) and Walton (184) have combined for 466 rushing yards for an average of 5.8 yards per carry; Yearby’s 7.31 yards-per-carry average ranks as the ninth-highest mark in FBS.
-Yearby and Walton also have combined for 104 carries and have only lost a combined total of seven yards.
DEFENSIVE MENTALITY
-Miami’s defense this season has recorded eight interceptions on 123 pass attempts.
-Miami’s +9 turnover margin ranks second in the NCAA.
-Miami’s defensive unit held Bethune-Cookman to just 79 yards in its 2015 season opener and tallied its first shutout since 2010; BCU’s 79 yards of total offense was the first time in the Al Golden era that an opponent was held to fewer than 100 yards.
