MIAMI, CINCINNATI MEET AT NIPPERT STADIUM
-Miami’s matchup with Cincinnati marks the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs.
-The Hurricanes topped the Bearcats 55-34 in Miami Gardens in October 2014, and have not played in Cincinnati since 1998. UM leads the all-time series 11-1, including a 5-1 mark in Cincinnati.
-Miami has an 11-game winning streak in the series, and has not lost since falling 20-7 in 1947 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
-QB Brad Kaaya threw for 286 yards, three TDs and no interceptions in the 2014 win over UC, including a career-long 79-yard TD pass to WR Phillip Dorsett, who finished with 143 yards.
THREE UP, THREE DOWN
-Miami is 3-0 for the 17th time in the last 60 seasons, and the second time in head coach Al Golden’s tenure; the Hurricanes started 7-0 in the 2013 season.
-Miami has started 3-0 only six times since 2000: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2013, 2015.
-Only 19 of the other 127 FBS teams have longer winning streaks than Miami’s current streak.
-Heading into the fifth week of the college football season, the Hurricanes are one of just 29 undefeated teams in FBS football.
-The Canes are also one of just four unbeaten teams in the ACC and are the only unbeaten team in the Coastal Division.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Heading into the fifth week of the college football season, the Hurricanes rank among the Top 10 in seven NCAA categories. The Canes also lead the NCAA in three categories, including fourth down conversion percentage (tied), tackles for loss allowed and winning percentage (tied).
YIPPEE KAAYA
-Sophomore QB Brad Kaaya has a touchdown pass in 16 consecutive games, a streak that spans his entire career and ranks as the fourth-longest nationwide. The only Miami quarterback in the last 20 years with a longer such streak is Ken Dorsey, who had separate streaks of 23 and 17 games.
-In his last start against Nebraska, Kaaya threw for a career-high 379 yards, two TDs and one INT. The performance earned Kaaya ACC Offensive Back of the Week honors.
-Kaaya has thrown just four interceptions in his last 303 attempts. He has thrown for more than 200 yards in 11 of his 16 career games and has four 300-yard performances.
-Kaaya leads the ACC in passing yards per game entering the fifth week of the season.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA DUO
-South Florida products Joe Yearby (426) and Mark Walton (218) have combined for 644 all purpose yards and eight touchdowns through the first three games of the season.
-Of their 644 all purpose yards, Yearby (316) and Walton (150) have combined for 466 rushing yards for an average of 6.21 yards per carry; Yearby’s 7.59 yards-per-carry average ranks as the ninth-highest mark in FBS.
-Yearby and Walton also have combined for 75 carries and only one of those attempts has resulted in lost yardage – for a total of one yard (Walton vs. Nebraska).
DEFENSIVE MENTALITY
-Miami’s defense this season has recorded seven interceptions on 90 pass attempts.
-The Hurricanes are ranked No. 27 in total defense (310.0 yards allowed per game), despite facing the No. 19 offense Nebraska (519.5 yards per game). UM held the Huskers under their season average in total yards gained.
-Miami’s +8 turnover margin ranks second in the NCAA.
-Miami’s defensive unit held Bethune-Cookman to just 79 yards in its 2015 season opener and tallied its first shutout since 2010; BCU’s 79 yards of total offense was the first time in the Al Golden era that an opponent was held to fewer than 100 yards.
