Bush Named To Allstate AFCA Good Works Team?
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior safety Deon Bush was named to the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, the most esteemed off-the-field honor in college football.
Bush is one of 22 student-athletes that have been selected for this honor.
The Miami, Fla., native received the honor thanks to the significant contributions he makes to his community off the field.
In his spare time, Bush has served as one of the team leaders in organizing the Be The Match Bone Marrow Drive. During the past four years of volunteer work with the Be The Match Bone Marrow Drive, Bush has helped add over 500 donors to the National Registry.
He currently serves as a representative from the football team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a regular visitor to local nursing homes and elementary schools within the South Florida community.
Last December, while the Hurricanes traveled to the Duck Commander Independence Bowl, Bush served food to the homeless at the Providence House in Shreveport, La. He also displayed a memorable act of kindness as he used his own per diem money during the bowl game to purchase Christmas gifts for under privileged youth.
In its 24th year, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® is comprised of athletes who have used their limited free time to perform inspirational acts of service. This summer, the program received an all-time record high 197 nominations from colleges and universities across the country.
Since being established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has highlighted the importance of community service and volunteerism. From sponsoring orphans in Ethiopia, to founding a program that helps underprivileged youth pursue a college degree, these 22 men continue to change their communities for the better.
