Q&A with @CanesWBB Transfer Shaneese Bailey
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Just a couple months after deciding to transfer from Florida Atlantic to the University of Miami, Shaneese Bailey began taking classes at her new college home Monday, June 29.
A week and a half into her time at Miami, the 5-foot-9 guard from Callahan, Fla. took the time to speak with HurricaneSports.com for a quick question and answer session . . .
Q: What has it been like for you so far?
A: It’s been interesting because I’m a junior, so I’m kind of used to all this study hall and getting to class on time and stuff. So, it’s not really new, but the campus and stuff, learning the campus was hard.
Q: Coming in with two years of college under your belt, how do you feel that has helped you get acclimated?
A: Yeah, it’s pretty much the same. I’ve already been through like all the hard stuff, like finding your class and getting there on time, time management. So, it’s pretty easy now.
Q: Zada Williams said you have kind of taken her under her wing a little bit. Has that been an interesting role for you because you’re new here also?
A: It’s been pretty easy. I’ve just been helping her, showing her how to get to class on time and where places are, and I have a car so I kind of help her out, drive her around, stuff like that.
Q: Is there anything that has been difficult to adjust to?
A: Not really. It’s just learning my way around, that’s pretty much been the hardest.
Q: What is your favorite part about being here so far?
A: I like the family atmosphere with women’s basketball. I love it.
Q: Is there anyone who has—kind of like what you’ve done for Zada—taken you under their wings a little bit and started to help you out and get you adjusted?
A: Yeah, Nigia [Greene], she helped me out a lot, and KP [Khaila Prather] and Keyanna [Harris]. KP and Keyanna are my roommates on the other half [of the suite], so they’ve been helping me out a lot too.
Q: What classes are you taking?
A: Greek and Roman Mythology and Evolution of Jazz.
Q: What are you most excited for?
A: I’m really excited to start playing and just getting to know new people, more people.
Q: Basketball-wise, is there anything in particular that you have been working on?
A: My shooting range and my ball handling.
Q: What is it about Miami that when you decided to transfer made this the place that you wanted to be?
A: Really, how coach [Katie] Meier interacted with all her players. You can tell that she genuinely cares about everyone on her staff, as well as her team.
