Eight Canes Head to NFL Scouting Combine

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Eight University of Miami football players will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. this week to compete in the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine, which is set for Feb. 17-23 inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

The NFL Network will provide live coverage of the event. Miami’s eight invites to the NFL Scouting Combine is the third-highest total among teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Defensive end Anthony Chickillo (Tampa, Fla.), wide receiver Phillip Dorsett (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), offensive lineman Jonathan Feliciano (Davie Fla.), offensive lineman Ereck Flowers (Miami, Fla.), cornerback Ladarius Gunter (Montgomery, Ala.), running back Duke Johnson (Miami, Fla.), linebacker Denzel Perryman (Coral Gables, Fla.), tight end Clive Walford (Belle Glade, Fla.) were each invited to the league’s primary scouting event.

Chickillo started in every game this past season, finishing the year with 41 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. Following his senior campaign, Chickillo was named to the All-ACC Third Team by the league’s coaches and Phil Steele. He also received All-ACC honors from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). In addition, Chickillo was named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the East-West Shrine Game.

Dorsett closed out his career at Miami on a high note as he posted a single season career-highs with 871 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. He finished the season with 14 catches of 25-yards or more. He finished his career as one of just seven wide receivers in school history with 2,000 yards-or-more. The 2014 season saw Dorsett earn All-ACC Second Team honors from the ACSMA, Coaches and Phil Steele. He also was one of four Hurricanes to earn a spot in the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Feliciano was the most versatile offensive lineman in 2014 as he saw time at every position on the line, excluding center. During his senior campaign, Feliciano helped the Hurricanes’ average over 425 yards of offense per game and would go on to earn All-ACC Honorable Mention by the ACSMA and the league’s coaches. This past January, Feliciano made an appearance in the East-West Shrine Game.

Flowers elected to forgo his senior season after served as a mainstay for the Hurricanes at left tackle as he started in 12 of Miami’s 13 games. He also helped anchor an offensive line that allowed the Hurricanes to average over 425 yards per game. Following the year, Flowers earned All-ACC Second Team honors from the ACSMA, Coaches and Phil Steele.

Gunter concluded his senior season after he started in all 13 of the Hurricanes games in 2014. He tied for the team lead in interceptions with two. He also was one of four Hurricanes to earn a spot in the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Johnson returned to the field in 2014 following a season-ending injury in 2013 and concluded one of the finest careers in school history, as he became Miami’s all-time leading rusher with 3,519 yards. As a junior, Johnson posted single season career highs in rushing yards (1,652) and touchdowns (10). Following the year, Johnson was selected to the 2014 All-ACC First Team selection by both the ACSMA and ACC coaches. His 2,070 all-purpose yards this past season were a personal best. Johnson ended his career with a 132-yard performance against South Carolina in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl – marking his 14th career 100-yard rushing game, tying him with Miami greats Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis for the most all-time. 

Perryman led the Hurricanes with 110 total tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss this past season. He concluded his career with 351 tackles, which ranks among Miami’s all-time Top 10. Following the regular season, the Associated Press recognized him as a Third Team All-American. In addition, Perryman was finalist for the Butkus Award. Following the year, he was selected to the 2014 All-ACC First Team selection by both the ACSMA and ACC coaches. He also was one of four Hurricanes to earn a spot in the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

A finalist for the Mackey Award honoring the nation’s top tight end, Walford eclipsed the top career totals of any Hurricane tight end in program history after another standout campaign. Walford caught 44 passes for 676 yards with seven touchdowns in his final season, earning All-ACC second-team honors from ASCMA and ACC coaches. He also was one of four Hurricanes to earn a spot in the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl.
