Johnson Signs Grant-In-Aid to Join Hurricanes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Jaquan Johnson, one of the top-ranked safeties in America and among the most decorated players in Dade County football history, signed a grant-in-aid agreement with the Miami Hurricanes Tuesday.

Rated a consensus four-star prospect by recruiting services 247Sports, ESPN and Scout.com, Johnson was a three-time All-Dade first-team selection by the Miami Herald from 2011-2013.

“We’re thrilled to add someone of Jaquan’s character and work ethic to our football program,” head coach Al Golden said. “He truly understands what it means to be a Miami Hurricane, and he wants to come here to make a difference. “

Johnson will likely earn his fourth consecutive All-Dade recognition after another stellar season at Miami Killian this past fall, when he led his team to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the FHSAA Class 8A Regional quarterfinals.

Johnson was honored with 2015 US Army All-American recognition, and will compete in the prestigious US Army All-American Bowl in January 2015.Johnson was also invited to Nike’s The Opening – a premier camp held each year on Nike’s campus in Portland for the nation’s top rising seniors – in July 2014.

“Quan has become like family to our program over the last several years.  He is a sharp young man – smart, tough, athletic, and a leader on and off the field,” Golden said. “I know he is proud to be a Miami Hurricane and can’t wait to get started in January.”

Coached by Cory Johnson at Killian, Johnson chose Miami over Florida State, Florida, Alabama, LSU and South Carolina.
