Duke One of 10 Semifinalists for Doak Walker
DALLAS, Texas – Junior running back Duke Johnson continued to catch the eye of the college football world on Wednesday as he was selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2014 Doak Walker Award.
Johnson was selected as a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award on the same day in which he was placed on the 15-player Watch List for the Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of Year Award.
The Miami native earned the semifinalist nod following a year in which he has started all 10 games this season, while compiling one of the most prolific seasons in program history.
In 2014, Johnson has totaled 1,343 yards on just 185 carries – a 7.7 yards-per-carry average – and has scored 10 rushing touchdowns.
Johnson became the first player in program history to top 5,000 career all-purpose yards last time out against Florida State, and has rushed for over 100 yards in six consecutive games. He is just 122 yards away from passing Ottis Anderson as the most prolific rusher in program history.
The prestigious Doak Walker Award was created in 1989 to recognize the nation’s premier running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community.
Earlier in November, Johnson was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award – honoring the Collegiate Player of the Year.
