Monday #ProCanes Report: Campbell Breaks Out

The Monday Morning #ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior.

It was a big day for defensive #ProCanes, which included dominant showings from Arizona’s Calais Campbell and Kansas City’s Allen Bailey. Not to be outdone, Antrel Rolle had a fumble recovery for New York, Pittsburgh linebacker Sean Spence continued his great week with six tackles, and Green Bay Packers’ defensive back Sam Shields dominated in his team’s blowout victory. On the offensive side of the ball, San Francisco 49ers’ running back Frank Gore wasted little time in extending the #ProCanes touchdown streak to 16 straight weeks – read on for more.

Allen Bailey (Kansas City Chiefs) – eight tackles, three tackles for loss
Facing an upstart Buffalo team on the road, defensive end Allen Bailey and the Kansas City Chiefs delivered an impressive 17-13 win at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Bailey tied for the game high with eight tackles Sunday afternoon – including three tackles that went for loss – and came just one tackle shy of tying his career high. With 27 tackles and four sacks this fall, the fourth-year professional and Georgia native is having a career season. His four sacks are already a career high, while he is on pace for 48 tackles – which would best his previous high of 30, set in 2013. Bailey’s play at defensive end has been a huge reason Kansas City ranks seventh in total defense.

Calais Campbell (Arizona Cardinals) – six tackles, two sacks
Coming off a 58-tackle campaign that included nine sacks a season ago, Calais Campbell has not had the same eye-popping numbers that dotted Cardinals’ box scores last fall. But the seventh-year defensive end had a breakout game against St. Louis Sunday afternoon, recording six tackles and two sacks. Campbell now has 39.5 sacks to his name in six-plus seasons, and has not had fewer than six sacks in any season since 2008 – his rookie year in the NFL. The Cardinals’ defense entered Sunday’s game with just eight sacks collectively, but powered by Campbell – whose second sack stifled a Rams’ drive – Arizona had eight quarterback takedowns on day and won 31-14.

Jimmy Graham (New Orleans Saints) – 10 catches, 76 yards, two touchdowns
Jimmy Graham’s dominant day against San Francisco nearly resulted in the first three-touchdown game of his career, but a late penalty on a Hail Mary pass from New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees resulted in the dramatic catch being waived off. Instead, Graham finished with the 12th multi-touchdown game and the fifth 10-catch game of his career, hauling in second-half scores of 11 and two yards. Despite the Saints’ disappointing loss to San Francisco, Graham led all players with 10 catches – tying his career high – and now ranks first among all NFL tight ends with 56 catches. His 594 receiving yards rank second among tight ends, while his seven scores are tied for the ninth-most among all pass-catchers league wide.

Frank Gore (San Francisco 49ers) – 23 carries, 81 yards, one touchdown
San Francisco earned a thrilling overtime victory on the road over New Orleans, and veteran running back Frank Gore paced the 49ers rushing attack with 81 yards on 23 carries – including the game’s opening score. Entering the week as one of only 29 running backs to ever crack the 10,000-yard mark, Gore moved past running back greats Eddie George and Tiki Barber for 24th-place all-time. The 10th-year running back now has 10,520 career yards – the second-most among both active running backs and #ProCanes all-time. His four-yard touchdown run just 1:05 into the first quarter was the 62nd of his career – moving him past Herschel Walker and O.J. Simpson for No. 44 all-time.
