Monday #ProCanes Report: Lamar Extends Streak
The Monday Morning ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior. In need of securing a big road win, Lamar Miller and the Miami Dolphins did just that Sunday afternoon in the Windy City. Miller carried the ball 18 times for 61 tough yards, including his fourth touchdown of the season late in the middle of the third quarter, to help guide the Dolphins to a 27-14 win over the Chicago Bears. Miller’s touchdown extended the #ProCanes streak to 13 consecutive weeks with a score, and highlighted another strong week for former Hurricanes across the league.
Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts) – four catches, 15 yards
Now in the 14th season of his prolific professional career, Reggie Wayne needed 15 yards Sunday to become just the ninth player in NFL history to top the 14,000-yard mark. He did exactly that in Indy’s blowout win over Cincinnati, totaling 15 yards on four catches despite injuring his elbow during the game. Wayne, who extended his personal NFL record to 78 consecutive games with three or more catches, has at least one reception in 126 consecutive games. He serves as the active NFL receiving yardage leader, leading fellow #ProCanes standout Andre Johnson by 920 yards in the category. The Louisiana native is just five receiving yards away from passing James Lofton for the eight-highest total in NFL history.
Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers) – eight catches, 105 yards
If Carolina Panthers’ offensive target Greg Olsen seems to be making the Monday #ProCanes Report more often than in years’ past, chalk that up to the eighth-year tight end having a career season through seven games. Olsen hauled in a game-high eight catches and posted his first 100-yard game since Week 10 of the 2012 season. He leads all NFL tight ends and ranks 12th in the league with 493 receiving yards this season, while his five receiving touchdowns are tied for eighth-most leaguewide. Olsen is on pace to top the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, and is also on pace for the first double-digit touchdown season as a professional.
Lamar Miller (Miami Dolphins) – 18 carries, 61 yards, one touchdown
Make no mistake about it – Lamar Miller has risen to the occasion. The third-year running back and Killian HS alum is averaging 4.8 yards per carry through the first six games of the season, and is a big reason the Dolphins may have a chance to make a splash in the AFC East. Miller grinded out 61 yards on 18 carries in his first game since fellow back Knowshon Moreno was declared out for the season with an injury. Miller added two receptions for 22 yards, and now has 17 receptions on the season – the fifth-most among all Dolphins. He is on pace to set career marks in nearly every category, and already has more touchdowns this season than he had in his first two seasons combined.
