Monday ProCanes Report: Hester Makes History
The Monday Morning ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior. In an appropriate tribute to a mentor and beloved friend, Devin Hester high-stepped his way into NFL history in Week 3. The Falcons’ return man broke Deion Sanders’ all-time record with his 20th career touchdown return on Thursday Night Football, taking a 62-yard punt return to the house to etch his name in NFL lore. The return was the exclamation park on a tremendous night for Hester, who recorded his career-first rushing touchdown, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble in the 56-14 blowout win over Tampa Bay.
Devin Hester (Atlanta Falcons) – 62-yard return TD, 20-yard rushing TD, forced fumble & recovery
Playing in his first season as a member of the Falcons, Devin Hester soared to new heights Thursday night with a two-touchdown performance. After taking his first career rush 20 yards to the endzone on a reverse play, Hester recorded a 62-yard punt return touchdown to earn himself the title as the most prolific returner of all time. The return moved Hester past Deion Sanders with his 20th career score. The punt return touchdown was the 14th of his career – four more than the next highest total in NFL history – and moved him into a tie for sixth place in all-time punt return yardage (3,317). The 32-year old shared a special moment with Sanders after the game on a postgame broadcast panel.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: First Career Rush – No Problem | High-Stepping Into History
Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers) – five catches, 69 yards, one touchdown
Few tight ends have made a bigger impact in the early going than Carolina Panthers’ veteran Greg Olsen, who is one of just four players at his position ranking in the top 20 in receiving yards. Olsen, who has two touchdowns in the first three weeks, caught a fourth-quarter 37-yard score against the Steelers in a disappointing 37-19 loss. The eighth-year tight end has 224 receiving yards on 19 receptions, averaging 11.8 yards per catch. The Paterson, N.J., native is on pace for his first 1,000-yard receiving season.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Shake and Score
Lamar Miller (Miami Dolphins) – 15 carries, 108 yards, four receptions, 24 yards
Dolphins third-year running back Lamar Miller delivered the second 100-yard rushing performance of his career in Sunday’s disappointing loss to Kansas City, needing just 15 carries to top the century mark. Miller, who averaged 7.2 yards per carry, ripped off a season-long carry of 24 yards against the Chiefs defense in the 34-15 defeat. With starting running back Knowshon Moreno missing due to an elbow injury suffered in Week 2, Miller figured to get an increased workload. The Killian HS alum delivered in Moreno’s absence, and is averaging 5.8 yards per carry through the first three weeks. Miller is on pace for the first 1,000-yard season of his young career.
